I pull my
hand away slowly, leaving all the feelings we were developing behind in the palm of
his hand.
“The timing is wrong.”
“Bullshit!”
Startled, I
jump in my seat. Lowering his
voice, he says, “That’s a cop out. I know you feel something for me. I see how
you react because I also feel it when I’m around you. There’s something here and you’re
just scared.”
“Scared of
what?”
“Scared to have
a life without Cory and thinking you have to justify it to others.
The problem
with that is that when you start justifying it, it will make you feel like your love for
Cory was less. It wasn’t. It’s just different. He’s not here, Rochelle.”
“Stop it.
Stop talking about Cory and take me home.”
“Now you
want to stop talking about him?” He looks surprised. “I can’t win with
you when it
comes to him.” He shifts the car into drive.
“This is not
a competition, Dex.”
Disappointment
slides onto his face. “Then why is he being shoved in my face
every time
we make a move?”
“This is one
of the reasons why we won’t work. We see things very differently.”
“One of the
reasons? Name another because from where I sit, we fit like two
puzzle
pieces clicking together.”
“You’re a
supposed recovering addict. You have sex with anyone who offers. That’s it.
Right there. You play like you know who I am, but you don’t. That’s why the lies
are so easily believed. I can tell what you’re doing. You’re giving me an out that I don’t
want. You’re allowing yourself to believe the worst about me to ease your conscience,
but it won’t—”
“You know
what? Not everything is about you and your past. You lost a band
mate and
friend, but I lost my soulmate!”

Kim's Review
5 Stars!!!
Three years ago Rochelle
Floros had a fairytale life, the love of her life, Cory the Guitarist for the
band The Resistance, her son Neil and another one on the way. Then the worst day of her life happened and
Cory was ripped away from her. She’s has
spent the past few years trying to get her life back on track while grieving
his death. The unexpected connection she has with Dex, the band’s bad boy
drummer, has her feeling things she thought she’d never feel again. Caught between the memory of Cory and the
developing feelings for Dex, she doesn’t know what to do. Can she get past what people think she should
be and be with Dex or will this all come crumbling down on her?
I was gifted this book in
exchange for an honest review.
I have to say Rochelle is a
strong woman. She held herself together
for everyone else and only let her feelings of grief take over at night. She carried on despite the lost of the love
of her life. She never once forgets that
her boys need her now more than ever.
She takes her role as a parent seriously and gives them everything she
has. When Rochelle takes her attraction
to Dex further than she has before, she forgets herself and makes a mistake
that leaves both of them reeling over what happened. Rochelle isn’t a person who gives up easily
and she shows this throughout the book time and time again as her relationship
with Dex is tested by both of them.
She’s a very strong character who has the patience of a saint as she
waits for Dex to get his crap together.
Dex didn’t have an easy life
growing up but everything changed the day he met Rochelle. He never told any of his band mates that he
has feeling for Cory’s woman. Dex has
spent most of his twenties screwing up and Cory was always there to clean up
his mess. The day Cory left Dex in Paris changed him forever. Cory’s death meant Rochelle was available but
the guilt that he died in the plane crash isn’t forgotten. Dex doesn’t let most
people see the baggage he carries around but Rochelle is the only who does see
it. She is the only one who has taken
the time to truly see him for who he is and not what is printed about him. Dex may have the bad boy drinking and doing
drug persona down to a T but it isn’t him.
He’s one of the strongest characters I’ve read about in a while. He takes everything that comes at him and
keeps pushing through. He wants to be a
better person so he is worthy of being with Rochelle and her boys. He also has patience’s and takes the time to
see what Rochelle is going through and waits for her as he sees her as his soul
mate.
This book had me on an emotional roller coaster
from the beginning. I found it easy to
relate to Rochelle, as she was a mother who just lost her significant
other. This could happen to anyone of
us, just as it happened to her. The fact
that she fought to move forward and be there for her boys just shows she’s a
character we can admire. She’s strong,
patience, loving and caring not just for the ones closest to her but for anyone
she considers family. She would go to
the ends of the earth to help the ones she loves. Dex is a trouble man who doesn’t know how to
get what he wants. He hides himself very
well from others. When it comes to
Rochelle, you could say Dex has become an expert on her. He has spent years studying her and knows
what she needs even if she doesn’t know it herself. Rochelle may have started out with Cory and
he gave her two wonderful boys but he isn’t anything like Dex. The relationship between Dex and Rochelle is
a series of ups and downs throughout the novel, that has you wondering how much
more can one person take. I didn’t know
if I should cry or be happy as I read.
This novel takes you from happy to sad back to happy so many times you’re
not sure just where these two will end up but the love that Dex and Rochelle
have for each other is unlike anything I’ve read before. If you’re looking for a book that keeps you guessing
what’s going to happen next with a romantic bad boy drummer, you’ve found the
novel for you!!
