“What on earth is that look for?” Julian
stared down at her, his lips pulled up in obvious amusement.
Finn leaned over so he could be heard over
the loud music. “I think Dani is enjoying her role as town harlot.”
Julian frowned. “Harlot? Why would she be a
harlot?”
Dani and Finn laughed together. For the first
time, they completely understood something Julian didn’t.
“This is a small town, Sir,” Finn explained.
“All anyone is going to talk about tomorrow is the fact that Dani Bay snuck up
the stairs at The Barn with two guys. Trust me, she is going to be called all
kinds of names. Mostly to her back, though.”
She shrugged. It was to be expected. At least
no one would be feeling sorry for her.
Julian’s face went dark, and his fingers
tightened around hers. “They had better not say anything where I can hear it.”
He relaxed and nodded down at her. “I’m going to speak with Jackson, dear. You
and Finn stay together. We’ll be leaving shortly. We’ll retrieve Finn’s things
and go back out to the ranch.”
He turned and walked off, supremely confident
that his orders would be met.
He turned back suddenly. “And stay out of
trouble.”
Dani grinned. He didn’t look so confident
that she would follow that edict. He walked away. She watched his gorgeous ass
as it disappeared into the crowd. When she turned, she noticed that Finn was
watching, too.
“I’m sorry.” Finn pulled back slightly, his
hand coming out of hers. That look was back in his eyes.
“Are you going to be an asshole?” she asked.
“What?”
“I thought we worked through this, but it
looks like you’re going to be an asshole.” She wasn’t putting up with it. Maybe
she would have before but being with them had changed her.
Being with Julian and Finn together seemed to
have altered something fundamental in Dani. It had been beautiful. She’d never
felt as deeply as she did when they were kissing her, loving her. There had
been that terrible moment when she was sure Julian was leaving, but he’d
stayed. He had to care about her. He cared, and Finn cared. She wasn’t going to
let anyone take that away from her or make her feel ashamed. That was hers.
Finn stared almost blankly and then shook his
head. “I’m sorry. I spent so long trying to hide this from you.”
“Hide what? That I knew you were gay? I was
well aware of that. Why did you get upset because I caught you drooling over
Julian’s ass?”
His eyes slid down. “Damn it, Dani. This is
why I stayed away. I knew it should be only the two of us, but I wasn’t sure I
could do it. I’m not sure I can stay away from men.”
Julian was shaking his head at Jack, who
seemed to be teasing him something fierce. Dani stared at him for a moment. She
noticed she wasn’t the only one. All around her, other women had their eyes on
the hot new guy. They could look, but Julian was hers. He might not know it,
but she planned on keeping him. And Finn. As soon as they ironed out a few
things.
“And it never occurred to you to say, hey,
Dani, here’s the problem. Let’s see if we can solve it? No, you decide to keep
your mouth shut and almost let me marry someone I didn’t love because you
didn’t want to admit you’re bi.”
“Damn it, I didn’t want to lose you. I love
you, Danielle. You’re the only thing in my life that’s permanent. I would
rather keep you in my life than lose you because I can’t be normal. It should
be two people. A marriage should be two people.”
Oh, yes, she had to fix his way of thinking.
“Says who? The old biddies at church? Screw them. Why does everything have to
be one way? What we did up there didn’t hurt anyone. It isn’t anyone’s business
but ours. I love you, Finn, but I think I’m falling for Julian, too. Can you
handle that?”
“I can certainly try, baby. I was willing to
love you from afar. I prefer loving you up close.”
Kim's 4 Star Review
Julian Lodge had everything that
he could ever want. After taking the advice of a trusted friend, Julian decides
to take his first vacation ever and head out to the Barnes-Fleetwood Ranch.
Finn Taylor is returning to his
home town to his best friends Danielle (Dani) Bay’s wedding. Finn has been in love with her for as long as
he can remember but she doesn’t know he has been keeping a secret from her that
could change everything for both of them.
When Julian drives into Willow
Fork he gets a lot more than just a vacation, but can Finn and Danielle get
Julian to break down the walls he seems to be holding onto tightly?
I was gifted this book into
exchange for an honest review.
Dani Bay is used to being the
outsider in the small town she lives in.
After her father took off and the death of her mother Dani has sacrificed
her career to make sure her younger sister Val gets everything she needs. Dani may come off as a mousey, meek woman but
she is anything but a push over. Dani is
still searching for what she wants out of life but no matter how hard she
tries, she is always reminded where her place is in the small town. Working at the clinic with Abby Barnes has
given Dani more purpose in her life then she has had in a long time and it
shows her what she could have in her life.
Finn is back in town to not only
stand up for Dani at her wedding but to stop her from marrying a guy he knows
she can’t possibly love. Finn has kept
his true sexuality from Dani and is hoping by telling her, she will be willing
to embrace what he has to offer and take her back to Dallas with him. When Dani runs out of her wedding before he
has a chance to spill his secret, he feels like he’s about to lose her. Finn would like to be the man in control and
can be when he needs to be but what he really wants in someone to help guide
him to who he truly is.
Julian Lodge is a Dominant and
the owner of the most exclusive sex club in Dallas. Julian is used to having control and he needs
it more than anything. Commitment isn’t something that he is good at. Julian guards his heart and keeps everyone at
arm’s length. He is feeling like something
is missing in his life after having his good friends Jack Barnes and Sam
Fleetwood stop by his club for a visit with their wife Abby. Julian has an opened mind when it comes to
sex and his relationships. He likes his
submissive to be both male and female, even taking one of each on at the same
time. When Dani jumped into his car, his
life and vacation took a very different turn then he planned.
Jumping into a stranger’s car wasn’t
the plan but it turns out to be the best decisions Dani ever made. Julian and Dani have this undeniable
chemistry that pulls them together like a magnet. Julian’s first impression of Dani is that she
is without a doubt a submissive who doesn’t get the fulfillment she should out
of being one and he knows he can be the one to show her the joys of submission. Little did Julian know, Finn has a whole
other plans when it comes to Dani. Julian
is a smart man and knows that if he wants Dani he needs to explore what he
could possibly have with Finn and show Finn that he can not only be with both
of them but he can be both Dominant and submissive when needed. Taking on two
submissives isn’t new to Julian but these two are not like any subs he is used
to dealing with.
Lexi brought three very different
characters together and shows how very different personalities can work well in
a relationship. Finn and Dani are closer
than anyone thought and when Julian tries to take a step back both of them see
the difference on how to handle their Dom.
Finn can see what both side of his partners needs and turns out to be
the glue has holds them together. Just
when things start to get good between the three, someone takes matters into their
own hands and tries to ruin what they have.
Dani knows that her choice to be with two men is not conventional but
she will not apologise for what she wants.
Dani knows that by not giving what the three of them can have a chance
then she will be denying part of who each of them are.
The twist and turns in this book
had me on the edge of me seat wondering what will happen and will they be able
to make it through. Knowing Julian isn’t
as open as Dani and Finn I was seriously doubting the survival of this unique
relationship.
I love Lexi’s take on unconventional
relationships and how well she meshed characters from her other series into
this book. She makes it flow so well it
peeked my curiosity so much that I have started to read the series from which
those characters are from.
