“I
adore all of the women in my life,” he says. “I’d do anything for them.” He’s
looking at me as he says it, and my heart flutters in my chest. But I’m not
sure if he’s including me in that group, or if the hint of meaning I hear in
his voice is nothing more than my imagination.
I shake
my head as I frown, trying to clear my thoughts.
“You
okay?”
“Fine,”
I say, though it’s not true. Our rhythm is off, and it’s scaring me. We’ve
always been in sync, even before we were dating. And now—well, now it almost
feels like he’s deliberately keeping me off balance.
I want
to get back to normal, and I don’t know the path, and my lack of confidence is
frustrating me.
“Are
you heading home?” Ryan asks.
I shake
my head. “Oh, I don’t know. I haven’t decided. You?”
“Moira
and I are taking Mom back to the hotel.”
I wait
for him to invite me along, and when he doesn’t, I say, “It’ll be nice for you
guys to have time to chat in the car. But she usually crashes early, doesn’t
she?”
“Usually.
Why?”
“Oh.
Um.” I lick my lips. “Because I was wondering if you wanted to meet me
somewhere. We could get a drink. We could talk.”
“Talk,” he repeats. He meets my eyes, and I
see the question in them—have I changed my mind? Am I going to say yes?
I
glance down at the floor.
“Talk,”
he repeats. “No, I’m sorry. I can’t do that.”
I look
up, frustrated. “But, Ryan, I just—”
“I have
plans. I’m going to Westerfield’s.”
“Oh.”
Westerfield’s is one of the hottest clubs in town. It’s also a Stark property,
which means when Ryan goes he gets the full VIP treatment. Something that never
fails to snag the attention of the female patrons. Most of whom are usually
drunk. And wearing outfits that are barely big enough to keep a Barbie doll
modest.
“Oh,” I
repeat.
I wait for him to suggest I join him there, but all he says is, “It really was great that you came.” Then the bastard leans in and kisses my cheek. He kisses my f*cking cheek.
Kim's 4 Star Review
Jamie Archer and Ryan Hunter have been together for
years. This Valentine’s day, Ryan is going
to make it extra special now that Jamie has finally gotten over her fears or so
she thought. When Ryan gives Jamie an
ultimatum, marry him or walk away it forces Jamie to really look at what she
wants for her future and if that includes Ryan?
I was given this novella in exchange for an honest review.
Jamie Archer had an average childhood with parents that were
so much in it caused the opposite reaction for Jamie. She never wanted to find the kind of love her
parents had as in her opinion they gave up things they loved to be with someone
else and Jamie didn’t see why she’d have to give apart of herself up to be with
someone. Jamie loved being a strong
independent women and her career is just getting started. She loves Ryan and loves what they have but
her biggest fear is losing herself.
Ryan Hunter loves his mom and sister. He’s use to being the head of the family
since his dad died when he was young. Being Security Chief plays to Ryan’s
alpha male side but he knows when to hold back. Ryan knows what he wants out of
his life and who he wants to spend it with. He loves Jamie and knows what makes
her tick but waiting for her to get over her fears and insecurities is wearing
on him.
Ryan has to be one of the most understanding boyfriends a
girl can have. He knows Jamie and what
she likes. But most of all, he knows about Jamie’s fears about commitment and
losing herself. Ryan and Jamie have the
kind of chemistry everyone is looking for.
It’s always crackling in the air but when they’re alone and Ryan takes
charge and things tend to explode but in a good way. These two were meant to be together but Jamie
is holding back and that frustrates Ryan.
The one thing these two know is that they can’t live without the other.
J. Kenner has create this world of amazing characters that started
with Damien and Nikki and brought us to Ryan and Jamie. I love how Ryan and Jamie complement each
other. It’s like they were made for one
another and I can’t get enough. I can’t
help but fall for Ryan and his dominant side comes out at the right time but
he’s isn’t over powering but knows how to take care of things in the
bedroom. Asking Jamie to marry him was
the next step but just when the time is right something always comes up. If you’re anything like me you won’t be able
to get enough!!
