Book description
Crazy how eight years can disappear in an instant. One look at Katie Watts, and I'm a fifteen-year-old again--the one who risked everything to save a terrified girl from her twisted kidnapper. She's grown-up now--beautiful, quiet, composed--and telling her story to the world. A story that involves me in more ways than you can imagine. She used to call me her guardian angel. Sure, I risked my life, but she was worth dying for.
I need to make contact with her. Just to ensure that she's safe.
Somehow we reconnect. We become friends . . . but I want more. I want to make her mine. And she wants me too. Does she know who I am? Has she figured me out? Not yet. But she will. In the meantime, I need to make sure that whatever hold that animal had on her is gone.
So, yeah, I'm stealing these moments with her. Savoring them. Knowing, dreading, that she'll soon find out who I really am. And everything will fall apart. All because of that twisted, perverted monster sitting on death row. Her kidnapper. A convicted serial killer.
My father.

Kim's 5 Star Review
Have you ever wondered what happen to the person who you helped save? Well that exactly what Ethan wondered about after seeing Katherine (Katie) Watts give her first ever interview about what happened to her when she was twelve. It wasn’t enough to just see that she was doing fine but Ethan needed to know that after everything his father put her through that she was truly fine. He needed to connect with her but what was just an innocent gesture of friendship turned out to be so much more…
I was given this in exchange for an honest review.
Katie is a survivor! She went through hell when she was twelve but with the help of William Monroe she escaped and made it back to her family. Katie knows she’ll never be the same but the one person whom she connected with was taken away from her because it was his father who had taken her. Katie hated when Will stopped talking to her. What kept her going was knowing that she’s a survivor and that in helping her, Katie helped Will escape his own terrible life.
It’s been eight years but seeing Katie on TV brought back the memories to time when he was William (Will) Monroe and he helped Katie escape. Today and every day since he turned eighteen Will has been Ethan Williams. He has a successful career but a quiet life. He has never forgotten the day he found Katie and the day he was forced to walk away. The desire to protect her has never left and seeing her now just brings those desires to life.
First, I want to say that this book comes with a note from Monica stating that parts of the book may be hard for some to read considering what the story is about. I have to give her praise for taking such a hard story and tell it in the way she intended it to be. She didn’t glorify the abuse or give such detail that it may it distasteful. Monica wrote this horrific story about two survivors of abuse and made it into an amazing story about how these two not only survived but found a way back to each other.
It’s hard to believe that eight years ago the connection that both Katie and Ethan felt still existed now. The time apart helped them mature enough to be able to live a life. Katie has kept to herself never really trusting anyone again until she met Ethan. He may have felt familiar and brought back memories of Will but with a different name and a whole new look he was very different from the Will she remembers. Ethan knows what he is doing is wrong but the chemistry and attraction is so strong he finds it hard to fight. Although the guilt of keeping creeping up on Ethan he can’t bring himself to tell this new blossoming Katie just who he really is as he knows once she realizes he’s lied to her that she’ll never want to be around him again.
This book is most definitely not like most loves stories I’ve read but it captured me and had me rooting for Katie and Ethan. Monica does a fantastic job at taking her readers from today to the past and lets Katie and Ethan tell their story to the readers in their own point of view. Like any great write Monica leaves us with a cliff hanger and wanting the rest of Katie & Ethan’s story!
