About Slow & Steady

Goodreads

When Greyson Archer tosses a twenty on the stage of a strip club, the last thing he expects to see are the haunted green eyes staring back at him. Finley should be home raising her infant daughter and baking cookies, not tucking singles into her G-string and giving lap dances.

Greyson can't deny that he'd like his own private show, but there's not a chance in hell of that happening. The last time the former Navy SEAL saw her she was dressed in black, holding a folded flag and sobbing that it was all his fault... and he agreed with every single word. He couldn't do anything to help her then, but he can now.

Finley deserves better than this dingy club, and when an obsessed customer crosses the line, Greyson leads the rescue and will do whatever it takes to make amends for their broken past.

He never expected to want to settle down, but with Finley, everything is different. For the first time ever, he can breathe. But Greyson will have to fight for what he wants in order to keep the woman with the green eyes he's dreamed about so often.

Slow & Steady is book 2 in the Alphas Undone series, but can be read as a standalone novel, as it features a new couple.

Excerpt

It was nine o’clock on a Saturday night and I was totally out of my fucking element. A bottle of red wine tucked under one arm. A bouquet of wild flowers in the other. A condom tucked into my wallet, just in case. I was in foreign territory, and my entire body knew it – tense shoulders, my heart beating like a drum, and arousal barely contained beneath the surface.
Finley was standing at the doorway, watching me with a confused expression.

She looked gorgeous, makeup free, pink-painted toes, hair mussed and loose. Little cotton pajama shorts and a tank top that hugged her lush breasts.

“Maple’s not here.” She said the words, but she knew as well as I did I wasn’t here for Maple.
“I know that.” My voice was sure and confident.

“Then why are you … oh.” Finley shifted her weight, her eyes dropping from mine as she saw the wine and flowers. She could read it all, plain as day. I knew she could see my intentions, my uncertainty, and underneath it all, my desire. Maybe it was the desire to fix everything I’d broken, or maybe it was just my desire for her as a man desires a woman.

Normally when I felt that primal urge for sex, I headed to West’s bar. I’d pick out a woman for the night. Share a few drinks with her, a few laughs. Later, we’d head back to my place and fuck until dawn. And that was it. I’d be set for a few months.

This … with the courting and the nerves … it was nothing like my standard operating procedure.

I’d never felt so stripped bare and vulnerable. Never put myself out there so completely with a woman before. But then again, Finley was unlike any woman I'd ever met.

And she was still just standing there. “Can I come inside?” I asked, heart in my throat.
She didn't say anything. But she opened the door wider.

With Nolan’s words ringing in my ears, I stepped over the threshold, sure that whatever happened tonight had the power to heal us both.

Kim's 4 Star Review

Greyson (Grey) Archer was happy with the way his life was until he saw the one woman he couldn’t get out of his head, up on stage.
Finley (Fin) Sutton works hard to keep her independence for her and her daughter.  She never thought her life would turn out like this.  The night she ran into Grey changed everything.  Will she be able to forgive Grey and move on or will he be her downfall.

I was give this book in exchange for an honest review and Kendall rock it out of the park!

Greyson Archer is a former Navy SEAL now working for Redstone as private security.  He went through hell losing one of his own.  He never forgave himself as his friend and fellow SEAL Marcus Sutton had a wife waiting for him at home that he would never see again.  Feeling guilty for losing Marcus, Grey keeps people at a distance.  Grey likes control and he’s pure Alpha male which attracts all women.

Finley has a crappy childhood.  Marcus changed everything for her.  He was her happily ever after until she lost him on one of his missions but she had one piece of him that no one could take away, their daughter Maple. Maple is the one thing that is good left in her life but she’s struggling to make ends meet.  Fin took a job as an exotic dancer to help pay the bills but it also gives her the most time at home with her daughter.  Finley is a stubborn, strong willed woman who doesn’t need a man to help her out. Or at least she thinks she doesn’t need any help.

This is the second book in the Alphas Undone series and Kendall had pulled me in before the first chapter was done.  I couldn’t help but want to be Finley on stage when Grey first saw her.  He’s the kind of guy you enjoy watching you.  He may be the strong silent type but his looks are so intense they say more than any words could.  The instant connection that Grey and Finley have at the club is undeniable but Finley can’t get over the fact that Grey was the Officer in charge of the mission that killed her late husband.  Finding Finley in a strip club that lacked everything Grey thought she should have makes him angry and feel even guiltier that he couldn’t save her husband Marcus.  When Grey tries to step up and help out, Finley sets him straight, letting him know that she doesn’t need or want his help.  I love that the only reasonable person is Maple when she takes a shining to Grey and draws him into her life much to Finley’s disapproval.  As Grey starts to play a bigger role in Maple’s life Finley and the readers get to see a side of Grey that isn’t shown to others.  You can’t help but have your heart melt the way Grey and Maple are together.
Like in real life, nothing is perfect and working a crappy job in a crappy place leaves your safety in question.  Just when you think the intense connection between Grey and Finley is about to explode, Kendall throws a twist or two in leaving you wondering what’s going to happen next and will Finley and Grey be strong enough to get through it all.

Kendall Ryan always know how to hook her readers and leaving them wanting more and this book is no different.  I love the fact that there was a chance to see what was going on in Nolan and Lacey’s life and how they interacted with Grey, Finley and Maple.  If you’re in the mood for a hot brooding Alpha male who is giving a run for his money by a stubborn loving woman and adorable little girl then you have to check this book out.
