Better left forgotten

How far would you go to protect the ones you love?

Some things are better left forgotten, but for Caitlyn Michelson forgetting is not something that she can do. After the brutal death of her sister, she packs up her four year old daughter Carrie and moves across the country, all in an attempt to get away from her sister’s killer, Robin Quinton.

After blackmailing Robin she believes that she will finally be free to live her life. However Caitlyn was naive to think her threats would work against the man who brutally murdered her sister. It’s only when she meets gorgeous bad boy biker Cage Carter that she finally begins to feel like she is living again.

Will lady luck finally be on her side? Or will everything she has be torn away from her?

Excerpt

“Enough is enough,” I chant in my head as I walk across the lawn towards the sound.
As I’m walking along, I notice the extension cable that leads to just the plug I’m after. I head over, ignoring the stares from the men around me. The women just give me curious looks as I storm past them, thinking of expletive words to shout at them. Sending a glare their way, I keep my head held high not giving a shit what they’re all thinking as I make my way towards the stereo. I unplug the plug as a round of ‘what the fuck’, ‘who turned the music off,’ and ‘what the fuck is she doing,’ comes from everyone around me. It doesn’t halt me from what I’m about to do.
I’m just about to snip the little bugger when a male husky voice comes from behind me. Every single hair on the back of my neck stands on edge. Every nerve ending in my body is hyper aware and the hair on the back of my neck stands on edge as my skin breaks out in goosebumps.
‘‘I wouldn’t do that if I were you kitten,’’ he warns.
Snapping my head around, I freeze when I lay my eyes upon the most incredibly ripped man I’ve ever seen in my life. Seriously, holy shit, give me a bucket of cold water now because I need cooling down. My skin feels like its on fire as I take in the perfection before me. His dark hair is short but still long enough to run my fingers through it. It’s scruffy and wild, giving him this rough edge look to his physique; I like it. His skin looks as soft as a baby’s bottom, giving me the urge to reach out and stroke it to see if it’s as soft as it looks. “His skin is flawless” as my sister would say if she were here. His eyes are a deep, dark brown colour with long black eyelashes, captivating me with his intense stare. Time has stopped all around me as my feet stay rooted to the spot while I keep looking over at his magnificent features. He has a five o’clock shadow on his strong jaw, which helps go with the bad boy look he has going on. What has me gawking though is that he’s shirtless, only wearing a pair of low hung baggy black shorts. His hard chest is glistening with sweat and I watch, fascinated, when I see a trickle of sweat drip down his chest, over the ridged muscle of his stomach, making me want to taste it with my tongue.
Holy fuck! Did I really just picture that?
It’s not like I can help it either; the bloke is packing some serious muscle. I swear I can feel drool foaming from my mouth.
‘‘Like something you see kitten?’’ he drawls, looking at me amused.
I snap out of my lustful daze, trying to ignore my flaming red face.
‘‘How about you put down the scissors,’’ he demands, making me shiver from the demanding tone in his voice.

EXCERPT:
Padding my bare feet back into Jack’s bedroom, I start riffling through his drawers like a wet raccoon, searching for something that can pass as pajamas. I try on four pairs of basketball shorts and two shirts before finding items small enough to fit me without being obscene.
I’m not a small person—not at all. I’m average height, average weight. It’s just that Jack’s a giant who, apparently, wears size 100 in everything. Twisting the shirt around my middle so it hangs properly, I absently inhale and smile when I catch Jack’s scent.
What? No. Don’t smile about that, you idiot.
I unclench my fists from his shirt and smooth out the wrinkles I created clutching it to my nose. I’m not like a wet raccoon at all. I’m worse. Raccoons would be ashamed of me.
My inner dialogue—I’ve just accepted that I’m certifiable, at this point—comes to a halt when I hear an engine in the front yard.
Jack.
My first instinct is to run outside and smack him—you know, violent tendencies and all—but I regain my composure and choose a more mature tactic.
I stand perfectly still in the dark living room and wait for him with a scowl.
Through the window, I watch his dark figure stumble out of the car and slowly climb the front steps all hunched over. What did he do, go get drunk? Great.
I cross my arms, scowl still poised to kill, and wait as he opens the door and quietly steps inside. He flicks on the living room light and I ready myself for the shit storm I’m about to rain all over his ass. But my words, my anger, my bitter intentions fall away the instant I see his face.
“Jack.” It’s more of a gasp than a word as it leaves my mouth.
He pulls his eyes up from his bloody and torn hand, and sets them on me. “Jenna. What the hell?” Several emotions cross his eyes. Anger. Fear. Relief. Anger.
I pull a face. “Don’t ‘what the hell’ me. You’re the one who stole my car and drove off into the night.”
He screws his face up. “So you waited up to yell at me?”
“Well…” I pause.
Is that why I waited up? Well, crap.
“Yeah,” I finally say, not particularly proud of my answer.
“Typical,” he mutters. “Listen. I’m not in the mood to bicker with you right now so if you don’t mind rescheduling this bitch-out for tomorrow, that would be great.”
He brushes past me, his shoulder lightly sweeping mine, and halts at the touch. Facing me, he softens his husky voice. “I’m sorry.”
Long eyelashes lower over his storm-gray eyes as he searches my face, and the wicked wildfire inside me instantly reignites as his gaze drops to my mouth.
The thick frustration that filled the room just moments ago thins into a sweet trepidation, curling around us with a daring charge. So delicious. But so dangerous.
I carefully step back and clear my throat. Jack does the same. We’re masters of avoidance.
Without another word, he moves past me and marches down the hall. That’s when I spy the blood running down the back of his shirt from a large gash between his shoulder blades.
My heart stops.
“Jack?” I say, staring with wide eyes. “What happened to your back?”
He looks over his shoulder and frowns. “Oh. That.” Turning back around, he continues striding down the hallway. “Knife wound.”

Tattooed beautiful woman in old spooky interior

Sometimes wrong can feel oh so right . . . Jenna Lacombe needs complete control, whether it’s in the streets . . . or between the sheets. Ever since they shared a wild night together last year, he’s been trying to strip away her defenses one by one. He claims he’s just coming along to keep her safe-but what’s not safe for her is prolonged exposure to the tattooed hottie. Jack can’t get Jenna out from under his skin. She makes him feel alive again after his old life nearly destroyed him-and losing her is not an option. Now Jack’s troubles are catching up to him, and he’s forced to return to his hometown in Louisiana. Kim’s Review
4.5 Stars!!
This is the 3rd in the Finding Fate Series but can be read without reading this first two in the series.

Jenna has never trusted in love.  She saw what happens when a person lets love take control as both her mother and grandmother loved a man who left them and she wasn’t going to follow in their footsteps.  She has plans for the future and nothing and no man would change her plans.  Getting a scholarship to a University out of state in Arizona had her leave her mother and 3 sisters behind to pursue her plans for the future.  Everything was going along great until one night when she let her control go and slept with her friend Jack.

Jack moved to Arizona to get away from his past so he wouldn’t end up like his father.  Leaving everything including his mother and two brothers in Louisiana Jack finally had his life on track until he met Jenna.  She was the only woman that ever made him think of something more and sleeping with her that one night just proved it.  Jack didn’t just want one night with her he wanted her for life but she had a plan and it didn’t include him.

Just as school was about to start up again both Jack and Jenna got a call and both had to head home to Louisiana.  Since Jenna’s hometown of New Orleans was only two hours away from Jack’s Little Vail he decided to hitch as ride with her without asking knowing she wouldn’t agree.  After some convincing Jack finally gets Jenna to agree. The two-day trip is one of the longest in their life and what fate throws at them can either make or break what they have.

This is the first book of Chelsea Fine’s that I’ve read and I’m now a fan of hers.  Jenna is one of the most strong-willed, stubborn female characters I have come across.  She is dead set against love and so focused on her plans for the future that she is making herself miserable.  She knows what she is feeling but goes against everything her heart and grandmother is telling her.  She is so afraid to be brave and let go of the control she holds onto for dear life that she pushes the only guy who she has ever trusted away.  Jack Oliver was handed a crappy hand thanks to his loser father and has made the best of what could of been a bad life.  He had to grow up too fast and be the man of the house taking care of his mother and two brothers but never complained about what he sacrifice to do so. He is a true protector to the core with a big heart and patience of a saint and that patience’s comes in handy when dealing with head strong, stubborn Jenna Lacombe.  Things may not go according to either of their plans but how they truly care for one another shows throughout the book.  There were times when I thought that these two would be doomed and I didn’t think Jenna would ever see or appreciate what was in front of her, Jack.

I loved the characters and how their lives weren’t perfect but a mess just like the rest of us.  It was a refreshing and nice to read.  I was gifted this book in exchange for an honest review and I think Chelsea Fine had the right amount of romance and suspense in this book to make this a must read.

EXCERPT:

That’s how I spot her. There’s no doubt that it’s her; I’ve memorized her face. Leaning against a wall on the opposite side, her lips wrapped around a clear bottle filled with clear liquor, her fiery red hair a wild mane against the stark white wall, a tight black T-shirt showing off toned arms. She’s in no rush to part with that bottle, guzzling back a good portion before she hands it off to someone, wiping her mouth with the back of her hand. Her eyes at half-mast. She’s wasted. My heart starts racing. What the hell is Kacey Cleary doing here? By my calculation, she’s probably finishing her last year of high school, having lost at least half a year while recovering. I tug my cap down even farther, though I doubt she can see two feet in front of her.
Shit. What if she does recognize me? How would she react? Does she know my real name? What I look like? I can’t say for sure that my face wasn’t printed in a newspaper somewhere. She could have Googled my name and found a dozen game shots with me in them. I have my helmet on in most of them, but you can find a profile picture of me easily enough if you’re looking.
I don’t know that she was, though. I wonder if Kacey Cleary gives a fuck about anything anymore. Her Facebook account is inactive. She hasn’t posted a single word and the well-wishes have dwindled, as everyone moves on. I do know that she shouldn’t be at a party in this state. I’ve heard of bad things happening when girls get that drunk. Especially when they don’t care. But what do I do? A blonde stumbles into my chest with two beers in hand. “Hey, do you go here? What’s your name?” She’s tipping her head back way farther than necessary to look up at me, telling me she’s trying to flirt but is too drunk to do it right. I smile down at her anyway. She’s a good cover. I can stand right here and watch Kacey. “I’m Trent, and I used to go here.” “Really? When’d you graduate?” From the corner of my eye, I see Kacey shift from the wall and begin climbing the stairs, her arm hooked around the railing to help her. Two guys following her.
