My happy puppy greets me as soon as I slip inside the house, the air conditioning a welcome reprieve from the heat outside. I bend down and give her a quick pet behind the ears before leading her to the back door. She runs off, anxious to do her business, while I head back inside to take a quick shower.

I don’t wash my hair, but shave and exfoliate all of the important areas. When I’m smooth and clean, I jump out of the shower, anxious to head over to Latham’s. I smother lotion over every square inch of my body, the rich scents of jasmine and vanilla wrapping around me. I touch up my makeup, darkening my eyes in that sultry way I used to do daily, but now save for special occasions.

Then, I head for my dresser. I already know which one I want. After spending a few minutes with Adrian and feeling the anticipation she was experiencing, I dig out my own black bustier and matching thong set. Mine is an older style, though, with deep red piping and a black lace overlay. Carefully, I snap the back and glance in the mirror. It dips dangerously low, showcasing my cleavage and pushing my breasts together magnificently. The lace thong is sexy, enticing, and bold. Perfect.

I snap the garter belt into place and roll on a pair of stockings. Then, I return to my closet and find my dark blue sundress. It’s shorter than the others and will barely hide the stockings that hit just above mid-thigh. It too will be perfect. Keeping my hair up, I retwist it into a knot, letting only a few tendrils of hair hang around my face.

Taking one last look in the mirror, I slip on my too-high strappy sandals, swipe dark gloss over my lips, and head out of my room. I make a quick pit stop at the back door and call Snuggles. She’s not too happy to be coming in from outside, but when I produce a treat from the cabinet, she hightails it out of her doghouse and trots up the back steps like her tail is on fire. It wags furiously as she sits like a good girl and shakes for her treat. After a few more minutes of showering her with affection, I fill her food and water bowls, and make sure she’s settled for the evening.

Then, I head back to my car.

It’s only a few blocks from downtown where my business is, and even though I try to keep the windows open to enjoy the early evening breeze, it’s just too hot outside, or maybe I’m a little too nervous. Too sweaty. So I roll up the windows and crank on the air. As soon as I do, I hear a poof sound, and it’s suddenly raining.

Not liquid, though.

This is sparkly particles of hell flying through the air and landing everywhere.

Everywhere.

Glitter.

So. Much. Glitter.

I stop at the stop sign, spitting the sliver sparkles from my mouth and glance around. My entire car is covered in it. My dress. My arms. My face.

Dirty rotten bastard, son of the devil asshole jerk!

He’s. So. Fucking. Dead.

“So, tell me about growing up in Rockland Falls. Have you lived here your entire life?” I ask, concentrating on trying to clear away the grime off the ornate wood.

I hear her finally move, walking over to the cooler to grab a drink, as suggested. I glance over my shoulder just as she props her back against the doorframe and slowly lowers herself to the floor. She looks exhausted and we’re only at the end of week one. There’s tons of work to be done, including the cleaning of the remaining three guest rooms, plus all of the living spaces below. It’s a daunting task, even to me.

“Yeah, I was born and raised here. I’ve lived here at this place since I was little. Went to junior college and took some business and hospitality classes, but my real passion has always been cooking.”

I stop scrubbing and follow the sound of her voice. She’s looking off to the left out the window, and I’m immediately drawn to her, needing to hear more words fall from that mouth of hers. “What do you like to cook?” I ask, returning my attention to the task at hand, yet keeping one eye firmly on the beautiful woman across the room.

“Everything,” she says with a smile. “I make an amazing red velvet soufflé with mascarpone cream and wild mushroom asiago chicken, but my favorite is my zesty lemon blueberry pancakes with fresh maple syrup.”

My stomach growls.

The sponge falls to the floor.

Hearing this woman talk about food, the way her words ooze passion and happiness, has my insides twisted into knots and my dick throbbing in my pants. Well, more than it already was.

“Hearing you talk about food is almost orgasmic,” I tell her, offering a smirk and a wink.

Her eyes meet mine, the irises dark and alluring, as a bubble of laughter spills from her lips. Those fucking lips. I almost have to bite my fist to keep from groaning. “They always say food is the second fastest way to a man’s heart,” she says with a shrug.

“The second? What’s the first?” I ask, taking a step toward her.

“Sex.”

“Are you blind?! What kinda call was that?” AJ hollers at the ump behind home plate while the crowd around us boos and screams their frustration at the horrible call.

“Dude, your girl is vicious. Remind me not to get on her bad side,” Dylan mumbles to me as we watch AJ rant at the umpire.

“No shit,” I reply, shocked that such harsh words just came from my sweet little schoolteacher’s mouth. “It’s kinda hot, though.”

“Definitely,” my brother replies quietly. “Did you see how many hotdogs she ate?”

“More than you.”

“More than you and me combined, bro. A woman who looks like that, talks like a sailor, and can hold her own in a hotdog eating contest? Marry her, dude.”

I snort in reply, merely because I’m afraid if I open up my mouth right now, I might actually propose. If I was falling in love with this woman before today, well, seeing her in my element, trash talking, and burping warm beer has pretty much sealed the deal for me. There’s no doubt in my mind that I’ve fallen head over heels in love with AJ Summer.

“Can you believe that call? What kinda horseshit is that? A blind monkey humping a football could have seen the tag! He was out by a mile,” she seethes, her eyes burning with fire and passion.

“I saw,” I tell her, wrapping my arm around her shoulders and pulling her into my side. “Horrible call.”

“The worst,” she grumbles.

“You’re scaring the big burly guys behind us, honey,” I tease.

She glances over her shoulder at my words. “You mean Bill and Tom? Shit, who do you think taught me those bad words?” she asks, making me laugh. “They really appreciated the autographs, though,” she adds. As soon as the Rangers fans sat down behind us before the game started, they recognized me and started chatting. I signed a few autographs for them and a handful for others in the vicinity.
