Cover Reveal for The One Night Stand by Elizabeth Hayley

THE ONE NIGHT STAND
By Elizabeth Hayley
Standalone
Release Day – Dec 12. 2017

Gabriel Torres thought his life after Major League Baseball would be simple and quiet, or at least quieter. However, as he takes over running the exclusive Players Club, he finds himself continually embroiled in scandal and drama. Surely nothing, and no one could make his life any crazier...Right?

Rachel Adler is a blast from Gabe’s past who crashed back into his life with the finesse of a freight train. But she's a welcome distraction. At least for a night.

Rachel has been working hard to become one of the top sports journalists in the country. She doesn't have time for a long-term romance or irresistibly charming baseball players. A one-night-stand with the man who she knew would hit it out of the park was all she wanted.

But when she gets a tip that Gabe could have ties to one of the biggest sports stories in history, a story that could make her career, Rachel decides that maybe she has a little time for the sexy baseball player after all. As she gets in deeper with both her story and Gabe, Rachel begins to question who she is, what she wants, and what exactly she’s willing to sacrifice for her career.

Will the potential grand-slam romance be stopped short or will Rachel and Gabe be able to go the distance?

About the Authors

Elizabeth Hayley is actually "Elizabeth" and "Hayley," two friends who love reading romance novels to obsessive levels. This mutual love prompted them to put their English degrees to good use by penning their own. The product is Pieces of Perfect, their debut novel. They learned a ton about one another through the process, like how they clearly share a brain and have a persistent need to text each other constantly (much to their husbands' chagrin).

They live with their husbands and kids in a Philadelphia suburb. Thankfully, their children are still too young to read.

Elizabeth Hayley's writing motto is best captured by the words of Patrick Dennis: "I always start with a clean piece of paper and a dirty mind."

Author: Heidi Hutchinson
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Day: November 14th

About In Between the Earth and Sky

What happens when an irresistible force meets an immovable object?

Remington Rohan was not a rule follower.

Former model (though not one of the “super” kind), successful influencer and life coach. Currently paid to tell people how to achieve the best from their lives and careers.  In other words, a complete contradiction to how he preferred to live—namely, on his own terms and without input from others.

Everything about his life was going according to plan.

Until he started spending way too much time with a woman who defied his prejudices and challenged his beliefs.

Lydia Larkin was not a genius.

Gifted, clever, and stubborn. Raised on star maps and Hendrix, she was born an explorer. Temporarily tied down to a private sector science job, she knew she was biding her time before she was off to discover and build something new.

Not one to let society tell her who she was, she wasn’t about to let a professional influencer tell her she had to change to be happy.

Buckle up and brace for impact.

“You just let yourself in now?” Lydia accused with narrowed eyes and a full mouth.

Remington grinned, sliding easily into their special vibe that only existed when they were alone together. Uncomplicated, silly, innocent.

“What are you eating?” he asked, closing the door behind him.

“Cereal,” she slurped, lifting her chin to catch a dribble of milk off her chin.

“Fancy.”

“I live the high life. What are you doing here?”

“You don’t have a telescope. Someone who looks at the sky as often as you, should have a telescope.”

He produced the used item from behind his back and presented it to her.

“You bought me a telescope?” she asked.

“I bought us a telescope,” he clarified. “At a flea market. So, who knows if it even works all that well,” he added with a shrug.

“Hm.” She perked up, her eyebrows lifting into her hairline. “If it’s broken, I can fix it.”

“Why doesn’t that surprise me?”

He set it aside and came fully into the apartment. He stopped a foot away and eyed her appearance more critically.

“What’s wrong with you?”

“Rude.” Lydia glared at him before turning her back and taking her cereal bowl to her bed.

“No, I mean…something’s different…?” Remington noticed the slight limp in her gait and the slow way she lowered herself onto the mattress. “Are you hurt?”

Lydia puffed up her cheeks and blew the air out. “Only literally.”

His pulse jumped and he glanced around the apartment. As if expecting to have to fight someone or something. “What happened?”

“I am going to be just fine,” she reassured him. “It’s nothing some Advil and a full body massage won’t fix. Do you feel like this all the time?” she asked, shifting with a grimace as she tried to prop her pillow behind her back.

“What do you mean?” he asked, crossing to her and assisting with the pillow.

“You work out every day, right?”

Remington felt a smile slowly spread across his face. “You went to the gym?”

She snorted and rolled her eyes. “Yeah. I thought I was in pretty good shape too, but muscles I didn’t even know I had are using horribly foul language on me.”

“I’m hurt, Larkin. If you were going to sign up with a trainer, why didn’t you ask me first?”

The unamused expression she shot him made him laugh out loud.

“I didn’t hire a trainer. My friend Brenda talked me into self-defense classes in the form of Krav Maga.” She slowly stretched her legs out in front of her and winced.

“That’s awesome!” he declared. “I do Jui Jitsu!”

“Good for you.” She did not sound congratulatory.

“If you keep up with it, you won’t have soreness like this,” he told her, shuffling her over so he could join her on the bed. “Finish your cereal, you big kid, and I’ll give you an athletic massage.”

She took a bite of her cereal and eyed him with obvious suspicion. “I don’t know if that’s a good idea.”

“Why? Because I’ll be touching your body and you’re so uncontrollably attracted to me?” he teased. “Keep it in your pants, Larkin.”

“I changed my mind,” she said, swallowing her mouthful. He tilted his head in question. “I thought I was done hating you, but no.”

Remington barked a laugh that had him tipping his head back to rest on the wall behind him.

“One of these days I’m gonna be a Krav Maga expert and I’m going to kick your ass. Who’ll be laughing then?”

He rolled his head to the side to grin at her. “Honestly, that sounds amazing. We can spar each other.”

Lydia caught his gaze and she grew quiet. “We already spar.”

“I know.” His smile softened. “I love it.”

About Heidi Hutchinson

Heidi Hutchinson was born in South Dakota and raised the exact right distance away from the Black Hills. She had an overactive imagination very early on, and wasted no time in getting most of her friends in trouble due to her unrealistic and completely ridiculous ideas. Seeing as she was so lazy and also afraid people would think she was bonkers, she didn't write down any of the story lines that played out in her daydreams.

During her high school years, she took pen to paper and filled more notebooks than she is proud of with angsty, depressing, self-deprecating poetry. This led to her writing down more things: notes, ideas, character bios, plot twists that had no plot yet to twist. After years of cleaning up her own scraps of imagination with nothing solid to hold on to, she sat down and wrote the story that had been in her head the longest. Fueled by coffee and her unwavering and perfectly normal devotion to Dave Grohl, she discovered a writer living inside of her.

She still lives in the Midwest, though not as close to the Black Hills as she would prefer, with her alarmingly handsome husband and their fearless child. They eat more pizza than God intended and she listens to her music the same way she lives: loudly.

“This seat taken?”

She turned and smiled. Jake was there, looking exceptionally handsome in a casual jacket and trousers. No tie, shirt slightly open. He was very tall—six-four—and his shoulders were nicely broad, but he could appear almost lean. His hair was at a rakish angle over his forehead.

“I’ll make room for you, sir,” she said.

“Soda?”

“Yes. With lime. Makes it fancy.”

He ordered for them both and took her hand, twining their fingers. “Should be champagne.”

“Not tonight.”

“No, not tonight,” he agreed. “But, I promise…”

She heard the guilt in his voice and tightened her grip, willing him to understand. “Jake, it’s all right. I promise. This isn’t just what you do—it’s who you are. And, I’m proud of that.”

“You’re doing okay, right?”

“Of course. Oh, because I was dreaming.”

“I really don’t like what’s going on.”

“With me—or the murdered girl and the slashed hood?”

“All of the above,” he sighed. “But for now, let’s focus on dinner.”

“What did you do? You think these are associated? Tell me—”

“After.” He brushed her lips with his. “Let’s have an almost romantic dinner first.”

The maître’d showed them to their table. Ashley loved the sense of history at Antoine’s. And the food was amazing too.

Once they were seated and had ordered, Jake smiled. “Wedding plans. How are they going?”

“The space is all cleared out for the wedding. We have plenty of room—luckily, a lot of our friends come as couples, so doubling them up won’t be a problem. No rooms are rented out for the weeks before and after. Oh, and you know how the main hall has the winding staircases on either side? I’ll come down the left with Frazier. He’s so excited. We’ll be married at the base of the stairs, and then take the reception out to the grounds. It really should be beautiful. Actually, whatever we do will be beautiful. You know, I’d be fine with a justice of the peace.”

“I would never do that to your grandfather,” he chuckled.

“No, I guess not.” She grinned.

He leaned toward her, twirling soda in his glass. “So, do you have plans for later?”

Excerpt

Andrew Benson, a reporter for the Chicago Sun, is waiting in a chair outside my office when I approach, moving as quickly as I can in heels.

“Sorry.” I smile at him. “My meeting ran over by a few minutes.”

He grins back, brushing dark hair away from his eyes. “No problem. I walked past the room as you were speaking. That sounded like…an interesting meeting.”

“Yeah.” I laugh lightly. “As you can imagine, our employees have to be comfortable talking about things that aren’t usually part of an office environment.”

He nods and arches his brows. “Ready for the interview?”

“Ready. Thanks for waiting. And thanks for the call. This is going to be great exposure for Alpha Mail.”

“I’m sure the story will get lots of reads. Our photographer will be coming by in about an hour to get a photo of you to go with the story.”

I run a hand over my red hair, which is down around my shoulders today. I’m wearing a black pencil skirt and a green blouse. With a little lipstick and mascara, I can be photo-ready.

“Perfect.”

“Ms. Mills, I have Conference Room One ready for you.” My assistant, Jane, gives me a confident smile.

She does an amazing job as my assistant. If I can get the investment I need to grow the business, I’m planning to promote her into a role more suited for her talents. It’ll mean training a new assistant, but that’s okay. I believe in rewarding hard work.

Andrew follows me into our makeshift conference room. It has two tables pushed together and surrounded by mismatched chairs. I’ve focused my resources on building my base of employees, and things like office furniture have been neglected. Another area I plan to address if I can attract investors.

“So, want to start out by telling me where you got the idea for Alpha Mail?” he asks as he sits down.

He’s almost handsome in a rumpled sort of way. With shaggy dark hair and glasses, I get a Clark Kent vibe from him. But he doesn’t interest me enough to check for a wedding ring. I’m officially over men.

“I drew from my own experiences. I know there are women out there who like certain parts of dating, but other parts…not so much. So my goal was to help them cut through and get only what they want.”

“But the relationships they find through you…they aren’t real, right?”

“They’re real in their own way. They aren’t exclusive, and they aren’t physical, but when clients choose an alpha to communicate with, that’s absolutely the only person they’re hearing from.”

Andrew quirks his lips into a smile. “What are the qualifications to be an alpha?”

“Alphas know what they want. They don’t pussyfoot. They’re domineering and often jealous and a bit controlling.”

“And women are looking for that?”

Bless your heart, Clark Kent. You have no idea.

“Some women, sure. And I’m hoping they’ll give Alpha Mail a try.”

Jane brings in coffee, and we continue the interview for nearly an hour. When the photographer arrives, Andrew says he has everything he needs for his story. He shakes my hand and leaves, looking more than a little perplexed.

I wasn’t really expecting him to get it. So many people think women are looking for a nice man who will open doors, kiss them goodnight, and not leave the toilet seat up. I’m sure a few of them are actually looking for that. But there are enough women dreaming of a dirty-talking alpha to grow my business into an empire.

And that’s exactly what I plan to do with this pitch to investors.
